Koolhaas rems with Interruptions

December 7, 2010

Koolhaas remmed with Interruptions in the city of Damascus weeks ago after lecturing his works upon disciples – we thank Suhad for the picture / more on manifesting a newer self to a non-self, on Damascus and the third republic of Syria – soon.

You can read here bits on delicious architects in the new buffet city of Damascus.

More Koolhaas pictures with Noise, Fluffy and Suhad here.

Post-No More. Commercials #2. Gallery 27 (the work of Yaghmour Architects)

November 28, 2010

Ok, here is how I’ll put this – COME, .. TWICE!

27 celebrates the work of Yaghmour Architects projected as a  personal encounter of life, architecture, material, homeland/s and “what comes in between”.

Facts and information are of no relevance here – but I’ll ctrl+c and ctrl+v what Rula announced on 27′s Facebook event page.

Gallery 27 I ٢٧

A Gallery for the Works of Yaghmour Architects , celebrating our new offices overlooking Amman.

A physical embodiment of the experiences of an architect, his acquaintances with land, light, stone and what comes in between if ever changing shades and shadows, of connected and disconnected ideas. This gallery exhibits the experience of 27 years through 10 projects that project their shadows to their surroundings, to enrich what comes after, and remind us of the necessity of everyday learning.

The Gallery’s Opening Hours  : 10:00 am – 6:00 pm , everyday except for Saturdays and Fridays.

and is on till the 31st of March. :)

Post-No More. Commercials #1. Sunny Art Fair

November 28, 2010

No More. But – we ‘commercial’ others, giving back the support we were once given.

Since we no longer review – here I attach SAF 2010 Press release forwarded to me by Rasha Shaath.

Summary:

SAF, in partnership with HSBC, cooked a mature SAF for 2010 having conversed over months which were many resulted in a “wealth of answers we (they) received – which – grew and branched out revealing a solid understanding of the importance and the role that art plays in Jordanian Society”. The SAF aims to facilitate the buying and selling of art paralleled with efforts to connect artists with wider-public and collaborations to document artistic processes.

In addition to local galleries, SAF will exhibit works under ‘special themes’: The Art of Conversation, Collection, a Story and the Archetist (which I would’ve personally named Archist – or neither.) SAF will also present a lecture series and include an art bookshop, design store, cafe and lounge .

SAF’s new website is cool, so I didn’t upload the 60MB pictures – rather I encourage you to loads kbs at their own virtual expanse.

SAF 2010 Press Release

Interruptions; No More. :)

November 27, 2010

Since we ‘found this out’ we couldn’t lay it on – as to publicly announce and denounce this ‘something’ that had, awkwardly, for the past few years been widely identified as an experiment which influenced a humble, yet progressive notions in Jordan in terms of architecture, art, design, culture, research, experimentation and critique – but most importantly have inspired people, things – and us.

Interruptions rang within the city of Amman and echoed in neighboring Damascus, Beirut, Egypt – and extended internationally with contributors from all over the world and even lately celebrated in Denmark by displaying an installation made out of Noise Edition at Rum46 art space and have influenced friends in Germany to start a similar project, Blaupaus. The Network have also attracted tens of thousands of views from over twenty countries and Banana Edition has been downloaded over 5000 times and viewed almost ten thousand times. A total of 6000 copies of the different publication released by Interruptions were distributed for free in Jordan, Syria and Lebanon with copies sent to Egypt, Turkey, Dubai, UK, Canada, Germany, Mexico, Vienna and the US. (two recently given to Rem Koolhaas, few leaked to Coop Himmelb(l)au’s Library, some at Rum46 Denmark and few smuggled into London’s Tate Modern.)

For the past years, Interruptions had raped standardization, invented and killed one hundred ways of doing things and built an idiomatic parameter which it stayed true to. Now Interruptions abstracts itself into an idea which may be resurrected anytime in a different shape, content or structure. But for now it rests and it thanks the you/s, since Interruptions’ followers were a sum of individuals with interruptive tendancies.

We thank you. We thank everyone who supported us – mainly: (in chronologic order) Dr Rami Daher, Ali Maher, Khalid Hattar (Safir Press), Ahmad Humeid + Syntax, Ola Khalidi + Makan, Amman Institute + GAM, HE Mayor Omar Maani, Fadi Ghandour (Aramex), Khalid Nahhas, Raed Asfour + Masra7 al Balad, Madian al Jazirah (Books@Cafe), Ruwwad, AbdulSalam Akkad (Aramram) and many others..

We thank our friends, the Interruptionists our contributors, our collaborators, sponsors, followers and everyone who had the spirit.

and of course Team Awesome (++) who, together, were Interruptions peek: Ahmad Sabbagh, Ali Musleh, Dina Haddadin, Hadi Alaeddin, Nour Bishouty, Rula Yaghmour, Yazan Baggili and myself, Khaled Sedki

The New (Type)face of Amman | عمّان وخطها الجديد

July 26, 2010

SYNTAX and Al-Balad Theater present:

The New (Type)face of Amman

Tues 27 July 19:00 – 21:00
Al Balad Theatre, Jabal Amman

German type-design rising star Yanone will be telling the story of his Amman typeface, created for the Amman Municipality’s “Amman Brand” project in collaboration with SYNTAX.

The result of this project is now FF Amman, marketed worldwide by FontShop, as one of largest bilingual font families ever.

Amman is probably the first Arab city to get its own typeface. The Amman typeface is now starting to appear all around Amman, on signs, posters and ads. It will become one of the city’s recognizable visual features.

If you’re a designer, design student, design and art lover or a Amman enthusiast, we’d love you to join us for an interesting presentation and discussion.
Yanone will also preview the 15-minute film he has shot during his current visit to our city.

Interruptions releases Noise Edition

a much anticipated publication which release follows dense ‘interruptive operations’ over the past few months!

Noise Edition’s first release will be at Art Lounge, Beirut and will also be released in Amman and Damascus in the following weeks!

Join Interruptions Network and Facebook page for more updates.

[Noise Edition]

[ - This is certainly not the edition that will save the world. The content is neither coherent nor structured. It does not carry a gesture of order, or even attempt to build an idea.

Noise edition is almost unedited, and its actual production took only few weeks almost a year after releasing Banana. For many, it’s a business failure since we beg for the money to print and then distribute for free! Many articles were postponed for lack of funds, and great ideas were ditched for the lack of time but nothing was held-up for the lack of passion, energy or determination.

Noise is a public deceleration of the striding urge for interrupting rigidity in all forms possible. It tests the potential of creative responses to social and cultural issues as evident in Catatonia experiment which is, in essence, a twisted response to current urban deformations in Amman. Noise adopts a critical, at times sarcastic, tone doubtful of the ‘absolute’ and questionable of ‘standards’.

The release of Noise Editions comes together with the realization of our projects; Counterparts and Dajeej vol.1 – three contributions that we believe will inspire cultural and creative pulses in Amman and beyond. We bow to the collective souls who, together, have built an importunate body of progressive culture. - ]
